What is your favorite trip?
Want to know about the "Real Texas?" Real Texas Blog: Everything about the Great State of Texas
Favorite PlacesWe’ve often been asked, “What are your favorite places you have traveled?” Our first response every time is the same. “Anywhere a Cruise Ship can take us.” And these days, cruise ships can take you just about anywhere and the shore excursions that go along with the cruise make the trips even more exciting and memorable. But to get specific, “Which cruises and/or land packages have been our favorites?” Why a cruise? You only have to unpack once, your food is already paid for and it is the very best. It’s like staying in a 5 Star hotel with the very best of service and amenities. 24 hour room service is included in the price, the scenery is tremendous. You sail to an exotic destination on each trip, and many more reasons. It is also a bargain for travelers on a budget. A trip to Hawaii tops many traveler’s list of places to go, but we have another option for you. Why not fly to Hawaii, book a hotel stay a day or two before your cruise and after your cruise, then cruise around the islands. Norwegian Cruise Lines and others have special cruise packages that allow you to do just that.On September 1 of 2006, we took that trip. We flew to Hawaii, stayed two days pre-cruise at the Waikiki Marriott and got a feel for the islands. We then boarded the NCL ship “Pride of Aloha” and sailed to a different port in the Hawaiian islands each day. Since I am a golfer (sort of at 13 handicap), I wanted to play at a different course each day. My wife is a golfer too, but she also loves the Spa and loves to relax in comfort. She went with me to the course and rode with me, then headed to the Spa after we returned to our Floating Clubhouse. That was a trip of a lifetime for us and one that we will enjoy talking about forever. We played golf at the most fabulous courses available, all set up by NCL with their Golf Lover's package. The golf specialist onboard had our clubs ready and waiting or us at dockside and put our clubs up after we were finished. One of the courses was the Prince Course at Princeville on the island of Kauai. It is the #1 rated course in all of Hawaii and a top 100 in the USA. The scenery is terrific, the staff courteous and helpful, and the service top notch. We also enjoyed an excursion sponsored by NCL called the Secrets of Puna and walked on cooled lava formations and snorkled in a volcano heated lagoon. We also snorkled in Hanamaui Cove near Waikiki Beach and actually swam with a sea turtle. It was a very protected area and we felt safe the entire time we were in the water. (No Sharks!) After the golf round, Ramona enjoyed a trip to the Mandara Spa onboard the ship. She had four massages in all including a "Lomi-Lomi", Mandara four hands massage, stone therapy, and deep tissue massage. Your favorite trip might be a cruise to Alaska. Our clients John and Lucy Etheridge just returned from that trip and are still escited at all they saw and experienced. They sailed aboard the ms Stattendam operated by Holland America. Ramona is a Holland America 5 Star agent and highly recommends them. John and Lucy took advantage of some extensive shore excursions and traveled by rail through the Denali Forest. One of their shore excursions was a doglsed demonstration where they were be able to “mush” their own team of dogs on a dogsled in the snow. Pretty exciting for a couple of landlubbers from Odessa, Texas. We are eagerly looking forward to getting a full report on their Alaskan Cruise. We are also looking forward to a cruise through the Panama Canal at some point. This has just been a goal of mine for some time now and as soon as we can we will be taking this trip also. How about a cruise through the Mediterranean and seeing the Rock of Gibralter? The Greek Isles, or around ‘the horn’. Later on this year, we will be taking a cruise out of California on what is billed as a “Mystery Cruise”. This is a theme based trip with a ‘whodunnit’ mystery to solve. This short 3 day cruise will be plenty of fun. Ramona has already purchased a ‘pirate outfit’ to wear on the trip. Who knows, Johnny Depp may show up for this one. And again later on this year we will be sailing out of Galveston, Texas on the Texas Sized Carnival Conquest. We were in Galveston in August and conducted a ship inspection of Royal Caribbean’s Rhapsody of the Seas. The Conquest was berthed right next to us and we got a terrific view of that great new ship. We will be sailing with friends and you can bet I will be playing at Cozumel Country Club and hopefully other courses when we go. We'll also see Montego Bay (White Witch Golf Club) and Grand Cayman. We might play The Links At Safe Haven in Grand Cayman which are set to be open by then. Carnival has an extensive lineup of golf excursions available along with plenty of other adventures. The more we travel Carnival, the more we enjoy them. We will also be sailing on MSC's Opera in January 2007 on an 11 day Eastern Caribbean vacation. We will be visiting San Juan, St. Maarten, Grenada, Barbados, St. Lucia, Tortola, and Samana. MSC is a luxury Cruise Ship and we will give a full report on just how great that one was when we return.
