Galveston Attractions

"Galveston, oh Galveston"......Well, you know the rest of Glen Campbell's great song. It was a hit way back when but it's still true. We love to spend at least an extra day in Galveston seeing the sights, shopping, people watching, great food and more. Call us for a pre and post cruise stay in Galveston before and after your cruise.

Galveston Attractions 1 Galveston: According to a Port Guide brochure, "You just have to like a town whose first European settler was a pirate. Especially a pirate who interupted his illicit adventures to fight heroically for the United States in the War of 1812."

It was the pirate Jean Lafitte, a French privateer and smuggler who aided the fledgling United States and later returned to his old ways raiding Spanish ships from his base in Galveston. Now, two centuries after Lafitte, the strategic importance of Galveston has also become known to cruise ships that operate year round and seasonally from this famous and historic seaport in Texas.

Two Carnival ships and Royal Caribbean ships operate out of Galveston. Royal Caribbean only operates a select schedule so be sure and call us to get their sailing dates. However, Carnival is going great guns out of Galveston and it's one of the best sailings anywhere!

There are so many sights to see that Galveston merits a pre-cruise and post-cruise stay for visitors. It is easy to walk across the street from the cruise terminal to the historic Strand District which is dominated by restored 19th century buildings that have been converted to restaurants and sttractive shops.

The many and varied Port of Galveston attractions to be found are just one of the reasons this area is so popular. Located at the mouth of the beautiful Galveston bay, 30 minutes from the open sea, this deep water port is fast becoming a destination of choice for cruise passengers, visitors, and shoppers.

It is an appropriate place to start your Galveston Cruise Vacation. There are many exciting attractions, all calculated to add pleasure and fun to your vacations.

Lots of Things To Do

Galveston's downtown has more than 100 shops, antique stores, restaurants, and art galleries. You can begin your exploration in the Strand which really rocks during Galveston's Mardi Gras and in the Christmas season there is Dickens on the Strand Victorian Holiday Festival. We also enjoy just sightseeing down the streets.

Galveston has the most well preserved Victorian architecture in America. It offers miles of relaxing beaches, excellent restaurants, top class resorts, incredible art galleries, antique stores, marvelous shopping experience and never ending entertainment.

The Lone Star Flight Museum (the Texas Aviation Hall of Fame) has one of the finest collection of restored aircraft to be found. Other museums of interest are the Texas Seaport Museum, the Ocean Star Offshore Drilling Rig and Museum, and the Railroad Museum.

Texas Cruise Company's David Werst added, "As a native West Texan, Galveston has always been to me like another country. It is fascinating in many ways from the coastal sights, foods, and weather. It's a perfect place to vacation. We love Galveston for lots of reasons and cruising is a big part of the fun now."

If you are lucky enough to be taking a cruise out of Galveston, you might want to plan a couple of extra days to see Galveston attractions. One of America's finest historical theaters, The Grand 1894 Opera House, Moody Gardens with its 1.5 million-gallon Aquarium pyramid, tropical Rainforest pyramid and Discovery pyramid . . . all are well worth a visit for self enrichment.Call Texas Cruise Company at 1-325-835-7561 to book a great pre-cruise stay or post-cruise extended vacation.

In addition to oral histories and manuscripts, it also has an extensive collection of books and original papers on aviators and aviation history.

Schlitterbahn in Galveston -is a new and exciting addition. The park is open starting in 2006 and includes the "Wasserfest" and "Surfenburg" areas at one affordable admission price. The "Wasserfest" area offers more than a dozen waterpark attractions inside the 70,000 square-foot indoor/outdoor convertable area.
