Cruise lines watch for Hurricanes and you can too

One of the main concerns of all safety minded cruise lines is of course, the weather. Cruise lines all take the safety of their passengers very seriously and with the number of passengers ever increasing, cruise lines want their "cruisers" to enjoy a safe and comfortable voyage.

Federal forecasters have upgraded their prognostication (big word huh?) for Atlantic hurricanes to include two more named storms than previously predicted.

NOAA says there is an 85% probability of an above normal season, up 65% from the initial May 2008 guesstimate. In its recent August 2008 updated, NOAA advises there was a better than average chance of 14 to 18 named storms, seven to 10 hurricanes and three to six hurricanes of at least category 3 strength, which is a big blow at sustained winds of at least 111 mph. So far this year, five named storms including two hurricanes have formed. The Hurricane season ends November 30th.

Before the updated, the feds said there were to be 12 to 16 named storms, six to 9 hurricanes, and two to five major hurricanes.

A Hurricane while out at sea is a major concern of cruise lines and they steer way clear of any possible dangers. Also, with modern ships fitted with the very latest in stabilizers, most of the time you are not even aware of rough seas. When rough seas are present, the ships are doing everything possible to minimize rocking onboard.
